According to news from Reuters, Swedish green battery manufacturer Northvolt recently officially announced that it will build a new super battery factory in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany.

As early as 2017, Northvolt signed a technical cooperation agreement with Scania, a Swedish truck manufacturer under the Volkswagen Group, to jointly develop traction batteries for commercial vehicles.

According to previous reports, after years of research cooperation, the two parties announced that they will put into production and commercialize the new traction battery later this year, with an estimated service life of 1.5 million kilometers.

Northvolt’s new factory in Germany is expected to officially start construction within this year, it is expected to be completed in 2025, and the battery will be officially delivered in 2026.

German Economy Minister Haberk said the new factory will provide 3,000 jobs. The Northvolt planned project has a total investment of 4 billion euros and an annual production capacity of 60 GWh.

Northvolt was founded in October 2006 and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its founders are Peter Carlsson and Paul Cerretti, former vice presidents of Tesla’s supply chain management department.

At present, the annual battery production capacity of Northvolt’s built and planned factories has reached 170 GWh.

On December 28, 2021, the company announced that it has manufactured the first battery in European history to be designed, developed and assembled locally in Europe.
