New battery tech to extend electric car range beyond 1,300km

Battery tech

According to news on May 17, Porsche believes that after the deployment of solid-state batteries, the cruising range of electric vehicles can exceed 1,300 kilometers.

According to the foreign technology media carscoops, Porsche engineers and research teams are trying to use silicon instead of graphite in the anode of the traction battery.

Thereby increasing the energy storage density of the battery by 10 times, and can charge the battery from 5% to 80% in 15 minutes.

However, this anode material currently has an obvious disadvantage, which will expand when absorbing lithium.

Porsche’s research team is now hoping that by reducing the silicon content while simultaneously increasing the nickel content in the battery’s cathode, this will allow for an increase in charging speed and the resulting power.

Porsche said that this new battery is confident that it will be applied to electric vehicles in the next few years, increasing the cruising range to 1,300 kilometers.

Subsequent optimization of solid-state batteries can increase the cruising range by 30%-50% and increase the charging power to 500kW.
