Mercedes-Benz unveils new AMG GLC Ultimate SUV: up to 671 horsepower.

Following the debut of the all-new Mercedes GLC and GLC Coupe, the German automaker today unveiled the AMG versions of the two SUVs.

The new car has a new design, improved interior and upgraded mild hybrid system.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC will go on sale in the coming months, positioning it above the GLC Coupé, which will be available to order in the UK this month.

The entry-level Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic model has 4Matic all-wheel drive and has a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 14bhp electric motor mated to a nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox producing 415bhp at 6750rpm.

Like other AMG models such as the E63, the so-called Speedshift MCT transmission uses a wet launch clutch (instead of the torque converter), which provides both smoother low-speed operation and better full-throttle response.

Beyond that, the GLC 43 also gets rear-wheel steering and standard air suspension, which is also part of the AMG Ride Control system.

It’s worth noting that the GLC63 S E Performance model doesn’t offer a V8, but a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder mated to a 201-horsepower rear-mounted electric motor for 671 hp and 752 lb-ft torque.

The turbocharged engine alone is said to produce 469 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world.

It is worth mentioning that the GLC63 S E Performance model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, but the top speed is limited to 171 mph (about 275.2 km/h).

Like the GLC43, the ’63 uses the same nine-speed multi-clutch transmission as well as the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, but the ’63’s 4Matic+ system is fully variable, meaning it sends 100 percent of its power to the rear wheels.

Mercedes says the model is more energy efficient thanks to an upgrade to its electrification system, charging at 3.8kW, and that the model can travel 7.5 miles on electric power alone.

Both new cars also feature AMG Dynamics, which improves electronic stability and steering response for better cornering;

AMG Ride Control, Sport Braking, Active Rear Steering and a sound-enhancing AMG exhaust come standard system to improve comfort on all types of road surfaces.
