
bZ4X is off to a bad start. Can bZ3 be the straw that saves Toyota?

Although it has been a long time for Toyota to layout new energy products, there are still no popular models that can be sold, and there are no “explosive” hybrid models with monthly sales of more than 10,000. The strength of fuel vehicles sets off the weakness of Toyota’s new energy models.
As we all know, Toyota Motor, as one of the big Three Japanese auto brands, has two representative auto companies in the Chinese market: GAC Toyota and FAW Toyota.
That is to say, Toyoda of the North and the South, both of which have great market influence. In 2022, Toyota of GAC Motor also achieved a historic breakthrough, with annual cumulative sales exceeding 1 million units for the first time, becoming a new member of the 1 million units club.
North and South Toyota has a number of well-known hot-selling models, such as Toyota Avalon, Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Highlander and Levin, etc.
In recent years, FAW Toyota has revived Crown and made it a separate brand, and launched Crown Kluger and other product models. However, the surprise didn’t bring too many surprises.
In the fuel car market, the power of discourse and appeal of North and South Toyota can not be underestimated, but in terms of electric models, to tell the truth, North and South Toyota is really dare not compliment, however, because of the short time for the layout of electric models of north and South Toyota, currently in the market has not formed the same as the fuel car market heat, but the awkward situation instead.
As the first electric model in the market competition between North and South Toyota, Toyota bZ4X has a total annual sales volume of about 7300, among which 4408 Toyota bZ4X has a total sales volume. Faw Toyota bZ4 accumulated sales of 2,881 units.
Due to the poor market performance, the bZ4 series did not achieve the expected purpose, not long ago, the price discount of 30,000 yuan and 60,000 yuan, but whether it will reap a certain effect, it remains to be seen.
The market performance of Toyota bZ4X in January-February 2023 was also not so good.
Just when Toyota bZ4X was making a big effort to trade in the quantity with the price, it was all recalled due to defects in the safety driver assistance system only six months after its launch in China.
According to the news released on the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation on March 1, FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. and GaC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled more than 12,000 bZ4X vehicles since March 1, 2023, in accordance with the requirements of the “Defective Automobile Product Recall Management Regulations” and “Defective Automobile Product Recall Management Regulations Implementation Measures.”

A recall for a defect so early in the market battle does not bode well for Toyota’s bZ4X. As an electric model for Toyota to test the water, in fact, bZ4X is more to ask the way, both north and south Toyota did not expect this car will be popular, because the Toyota bZ3 just launched is the main product model.
The Toyota bZ3, which went on sale on March 6, costs 169,800 yuan to 199,800 yuan.
Toyota bZ3, built on the e-TNGA platform, is positioned as a pure electric medium sedan, with a length of 4725mm and a wheelbase of 2880mm.
It uses BYD’s Ferdi motor and lithium iron phosphate battery, which can be charged by 30% to 80% in 27 minutes. Both exterior and interior design, are showing a more flattering side.
However, the price range of Toyota bZ3 overlaps with that of the reduced bZ4X, which puts a lot of pressure on the bZ4X, which is not selling well.
However, compared with other fuel car competitors such as Camry and Accord, as well as new energy competitors such as BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3, the overall strength of Toyota bZ3 is not too impressive. It can only be said to be mediocre.
The bright spot is not too many , and it will be difficult to achieve a rapid rise and gain more market share. After all, in today’s new energy market, the competition between major competitors is very fierce, and electric models are the weakness of Toyota.
In the case of the bad start of bZ4X, we will wait and see whether bZ3 can be the lifeline to save Toyota’s electric models.
