BMW rolls out i5, Europe’s first electric 5-series sedan.
News on July 24, according to foreign media Automotive News Europe, BMW Group Production Director Milan Nedeljkovic recently stated that the demand for electric vehicles in the European market is stronger than expected, which will help offset the negative impact of the decline in orders from China—— China is the largest market for the BMW Group.
Since the beginning of this year, Tesla Motors has cut prices to varying degrees in many places around the world, intending to make way for the new Model 3 and other models.
But the chief does not intend to follow in Tesla’s footsteps, claiming that BMW “does not intend to lower the price of electric vehicles.”

Changes in market demand for BMW cars
Milan Nedeljkovic pointed out that orders for BMW’s new cars in the Chinese market are decreasing, but demand in the US market is increasing, which is “in line with previous expectations.”
At the same time, in the European market, with the popularization of electric vehicles, the order volume is also rising, while the demand for fuel vehicles remains flat.
The BMW Group has said that this year, the brand’s expected deliveries of electric vehicles will account for 15% of the total deliveries, and by 2030, the proportion of electric vehicle deliveries will reach 50% of the total.
According to previous reports, BMW’s largest production plant in Europe in Dingolfing, Germany, has begun production of the electric i5 model.
The Dingolfing factory rolled off 280,000 cars last year, and this year, with the production of the i5, is expected to be well over 300,000.
BMW has been warming up to an electric 5 Series sedan for the past six years, and now the first electric i5 sedan has officially rolled off the assembly line.
At its annual meeting in March, BMW Chief Executive Zipse showed off the new electric i5, saying it created a “unique sales growth driver” for the company.
BMW says the i5 series sits between the 3-series and 7-series, and as the company’s second-best-selling model (after the 3-series), plays an important role in BMW’s history.
BMW officially launched the electric version of the i5 in late May this year, and hopes that this series of models can write a new chapter in the electric era.
The electric BMW 5 Series is equipped with the latest OS 8.5 car-machine system, allowing owners to play video games while charging.
Production of the electric i5 has already begun at BMW’s largest production plant in Europe in Dingolfing, Germany, with production overseen by Milan Nedeljković, a member of BMW’s board of management.
The i5 is the third all-electric model to be produced at the BMW plant, following the BMW iX and BMW i7.
BMW expects the share of electric vehicle production to expand to more than 40 percent next year.
BMW said 280,000 cars rolled off the production line at the Dingolfing plant last year, and this year, along with the production of the i5, is expected to be well over 300,000.
