SAIC MG launched the cheapest local electric car “Comet EV” in India

On April 27th, MG launched its second electric car in India, the MG Comet EV, with a starting price of 7.98 lakh rupees, which is currently the cheapest electric car in India.
MG Comet EV is positioned as an urban speedboat, with a two-door, four-seater design and a range of 230 kilometers on a single charge.
For comparison, Tata’s four-door Tiago electric model has a cruising range of 250-315 kilometers and a starting price of 8.49 million rupees; while the Wuling Air EV four-seater version currently starts at 76,800 yuan in China.
According to public information, “Comet” comes from the iconic British aircraft that participated in the British-Australian Mike Robertson Air Race in 1934, and MG’s previous Hector and Gloster were also named after British aircraft during World War II. MG expects 25%-30% of its sales in India to come from electric vehicles by 2023.
From the appearance point of view, this car is quite similar to the sister brand Wuling Air EV. The length, width and height are 2974/1505/1640mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2010mm, which is exactly the same size as the four-seater version of Air EV.
This model is equipped with a 14.3kWh battery, with a maximum power of 42PS (approximately 31kW), a maximum torque of 110N m, and a cruising range of 230km. The Air EV four-seater version has a battery capacity of 28.4kWh, a maximum power of 50kw, a maximum torque of 140N m, and a cruising range of 300km under CLTC conditions.
It does not support fast charging, and the 3.3kW estimated charging time is 7 hours (0-100%), and 5.5 hours if it is only charged to 80%.
According to reports, the MG Comet EV is also equipped with i-SMART as well as intranet features, making it a leader in the segment.
