Top 10 EV Sales Worldwide: Tesla Leads with 7 Models

Tops

Recently, some overseas media announced a list of the top ten electric vehicles sold in the world in 2022. The list shows that two Tesla models dominate the list, seven domestic brands, and one Volkswagen Group. The domestic market is still the largest single market in the world, while the European and Korean markets are dominated by their own domestic brands.
Specifically, Tesla Model Y has become the absolute leader of this list, with a super-high growth rate of 91%, which is far ahead of its own Model 3 by about 265,000 vehicles. The 3% sales decline of Model 3 is likely to be robbed by Model Y. Take the share. In terms of market share, the United States and Canada account for 47%, the Chinese market 28%, and the European market 19%. The two vehicles account for 95% of Tesla’s total global sales. However, Tesla still has not completed its annual sales target of 1.5 million vehicles.
The third to fifth places are all from domestic brands, namely Wuling Hongguang MINIEV (about 443,000 vehicles), BYD Dolphin (about 205,000 vehicles), and BYD Yuan PLUS (about 181,000 vehicles). The main market of these three models is domestic, and their affordable price is their biggest selling point, especially Wuling MINIEV has the function of replacing old scooters.

The seventh to tenth rankings are also from domestic brands, namely BYD Qin (about 163,000 vehicles), GAC AION Y (about 200,000 vehicles), AION S (about 117,000 vehicles) and BYD Han (about 117,000 vehicles) vehicle). These four models also focus on the domestic market, and GAC Aian’s two models account for a large proportion of online car-hailing.
Compared with the European market, the top ten electric vehicle sales rankings are all local brands. Among them, the Volkswagen ID.4 (approximately 176,000 units) will become the best-selling European electric vehicle in 2022. The second-ranked Volkswagen ID.3 sold a total of 77,900 units last year, an increase of only 4%, of which the European market accounted for 68%, and the current sales gap with ID.4 is large.
The Fiat 500 ranked third with sales of 67,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 51%. The models ranked fourth to tenth are: BMW iX3, Polestar 2 (Polestar 2), Skoda Enyaq, Dacia Spring (Dacia Spring), Peugeot 208 pure electric version, MINI pure electric version (MINI Hatch) and Volvo The sales volume of XC40 pure electric version is between 40,000 and 55,000.
The top five sales rankings in the U.S. and South Korea markets are: In the U.S. market, the top five pure electric models are: Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Ford Electric Horse, Model X, and Chevrolet BOLT; Tesla is just a fraction of that.
In the Korean market, the top five electric vehicles are: Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, Hyundai KONA Electric Edition, Kia Extreme Electric Edition, and Hyundai IONIQ 6.
It can be seen from the major markets around the world that, except for the domestic market where competition pressure is high and there are plenty of optional models, the rest of the market still focuses on supporting local brands. In 2022, the global share of electric vehicles will account for 14%, but this figure will only be about 4% in 2020, and it will be as high as 25.6% in China in 2022, which shows that the trend of electrification is already unstoppable. At the Shanghai Auto Show in April that just ended, more than 36% of the new energy exhibited cars accounted for enough to predict that electrification has pressed the accelerator key.
